Hymenocallis

Hymenocallis, a member of the Amaryllis family, is a tender tropical with sweetly-scented blooms that resemble daffodils. Each large flower has a long cup with projecting stamens and at the base a ring of narrow spidery back petals. Also known as “Peruvian Daffodil” or “Spider Lily,” it has 2 -5 flowers are on each stalk. Usually grown as a pot plant. Native to Peru. Zones 8-10.

Hymenocallis Advance (Peruvian Daffodil) have pure white flowers with yellow stripes and traces of green in the throat. The leaves are bright green. Also known as Ismene, they produce numerous bulbs during a growing season.

Hymenocallis Sulfur Queen (Peruvian Daffodil) has soft-yellow flowers with a green striped throat. This elegant, easily-grown plant is sweetly fragrant with a hint of citrus.

Hymenocallis Littoralis (also known as the Beach Spider Lily) has long 6 spider-like petals underneath the central cup. Several scented white flowers are on each sturdy stem. It can grow in water, in wet boggy areas, as well as dry areas. The stamen filaments are green, and the narrow petals have a thin membrane between them.

Hymenocallis Tropical Giant has small white daffodil-like cups, highlighted with long white extensions that give it a spidery appearance. It's flowers are sweetly fragrant and unique - three of the petals curve down while the other three point out. The 2' tall x 3' wide clumps multiply well when kept moist, so give it plenty of room.
